FAQWHAT'S A CANDIDATE? A candidate is a high school student (10-12th grade) who is going through T.E.C. for the first time. WHAT'S A TEAM MEMBER? A team member is a high school student who has already attended a T.E.C. weekend and has come back to serve other students so they may have an impacting encounter with Christ as well on a team. Teams are divided by their various jobs for the weekend. Some adults work on these teams, but the weekend is run primarily by students. WHEN DOES THE T.E.C. WEEKEND ACTUALLY START? The weekend starts at different times for workers and for candidates. Team workers need to be at the host church, or Bible camp, the night before the candidates arrive (Thursday) to prepare. Candidates arrive Friday morning. WHAT DO YOU DO AT A T.E.C. WEEKEND? Whew, what don't you do? Candidates are grouped with 6-7 other students from other high schools and one adult. Throughout the weekend they listen to testimonials (or talks) given primarily by students. Those talks are then discussed in their small groups. The overall theme for the weekend progresses through the last 3 days of Christ's life. Friday focuses on Ash Wednesday in the Easter story, Saturday is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and Sunday is centered around Pentecost and the sending of the Holy Spirit into the world. Candidates are encouraged to take what they learned at T.E.C. and share it. Many things that happen throughout the weekend are surprises and shouldn't be revealed before the weekend. Knowing what's going to happen takes the blessing out of the weekend and greatly reduces the impact it has. WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME?
WHAT SHOULD I NOT BRING WITH ME?
CAN CANDIDATES DRIVE THEMSELVES TO THE WEEKEND? Candidates should NOT drive themselves to the T.E.C. weekend. It is preferrable for them to be dropped off by a parent/guardian or friend. There is often limited parking space, vehicles are not needed at any time during the weekend, and candidates cannot leave the weekend. (Emergencies and certain exceptions may be made at the adult coordinator's discretion.) WHY ARE THERE SO MANY SECRETS? Truth be told, there aren't any secrets. There are, however, many surprises throughout the weekend which make it more impacting and special for the candidates. Any parent/guardian concerns need only to be addressed by e-mailing us.We can answer any questions you have. DO CANDIDATES NEED A SPONSOR TO GO THROUGH T.E.C.? No, they do not. Any candidate who filled out an application and was accepted may go through the T.E.C. weekend. If the weekend is already full, the applicant will be put on a waiting list and recieves first priority for the next T.E.C. weekend. (This is one of the differences between T.E.C. and Cursillo.) |
